I believe photography is often mistaken as merely a tool for remembrance—a way to document what once was. But its power reaches much deeper. A photograph isn’t just a representation of a moment; it is the moment, made tangible. It doesn’t point back to something that happened—it holds it. When we look at a photograph, we’re not just recalling the past, we’re standing in it again.

A photograph transcends its role as a tool to remember, becoming almost as important as the past itself. It stands as a relic, proof that it happened, and a marker that it mattered. Photographs not only bring up nostalgic feelings; they cement moments in time and give meaning to the events of the past.

And yet, the true meaning of an event is often only released in hindsight. Photographs leave just enough up to interpretation and manage to bridge the gap between the raw emotion of nostalgia, and the realization of what past events mean to you.

A photo from your past can be left for generations to rediscover, inviting them to ponder what it was like to be there. They will never fully know—but then again, can we ever truly place ourselves in the past? Can we even fully anchor ourselves in the present?
